Island Life - Lessons Learned

A. What’s a Snowbird? (Introduction)

A snowbird is the phrase used for people that go to warmer climates...

B. How the Heck Did We Get Here? (History/Legacy)

In December of 1990, my parents, brother/sister-in-law, and boyfriend (future husband) drove down to Florida together to vacation for a week.

C. How do you buy a property that is 2000 miles away? (Letting go)

I didn’t realize how strong of a pull my husband (Doug) had to purchase a place in Florida.

D. What’s the Rush? (Slow Down)

When you go on vacation, the first travel day is a bit rough.

E. What is “Island Time”? (Be Ready)

What the heck is “Island Time” anyway?

F. What’s the Deal with the Ferry? (Overcoming Obstacles)

This island has a ferry that takes up to 8 vehicles across at a time, depending on the vehicle size.

G. What’s a “Free” Garage Sale? (Be a Blessing)

One of the down sides of the ferry is getting things on the island and just as equally getting things off the island.

H. Patiently waiting (Patience)

It turns out that COVID, labor shortages, supply shortages, and red tide can really wreak havoc on a house renovation (who knew?!).

I. Handling the Unexpected (Flexibility)

We waited a little too long...

J. Island Meal Prep (Preparation)

It is a bit silly, but one of my biggest concerns about having several people with us was the food situation.

K. Will Everyone Get Along? (Fear)

When dealing with a lot of people in one space, you wonder how everyone will get along.

**I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into my life as a “snowbird”. I pray that you have been able to relate to some of my story thus far. This takes us through 2021. Stay tuned as I post more devotionals about the rest of the winter and beyond.
