C. How do you buy a property that is 2000 miles away? (Letting go)

I was a bit clued in when every time we would go on vacation, he would talk about purchasing a place, but I would dismiss the idea. I was a little slow, but eventually realized it was a strong desire of his heart and not a passing phase. He would look at various properties and locations online and ask me what I thought. We wanted to be open but we always came back to this little island. We knew it was unique and it has a history for us. The idea of building a legacy had a strong pull. There were concerns about hurricanes, wear and tear, and the high costs of being directly on the beach. We didn’t necessarily need to be right on the beach but wanted to be near, ideally with a view. Prices were increasing and it was a seller’s market, so we decided to put the search on hold. There was total peace about it. We would just save up and look again in a few years. Funny how that works, when you let go…. The very next morning a house came on the market in a very specific location that both Doug and I had identified but hadn’t shared with one another. We discussed it, the price was in our range, it wasn’t on the beach but had beach views, and it was in a community with a pool and tennis court that we didn’t have to maintain. We contacted a local realtor and they set up for us a video tour of the place for us the next day. We knew from the video that it needed some attention, but we felt were up for the task. Our first step into a wild adventure, sight unseen (at least in person), 30 years after our first time on the island.
Have you ever wanted something but decided to wait and listen for God first? Maybe a time when you didn’t seek God first and pursued it anyway? How do they compare?
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who give generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5
