G. What’s a “Free” Garage Sale? (Be a Blessing)

When we purchased our property, it came with all the furnishings. We went through all the items to see what we should keep and what to donate. The problem was how to donate lots and lots of things when you are on an island. It turns out once things are on the island, they tend to stay on the island, they just may move around a bit. It turns out that people on the island were more than happy to take anything and everything off our hands. We needed to get everything out of the house, as we were planning to remodel, so we had a “free” garage sale. Yep. We bought a garage sale sign and added the word “Free” to it. We made another sign that said “Welcome…Come meet your new neighbors.” We had drinks and food and told people to take whatever the saw that they wanted. We had placed everything out in the open inside the house and eventually started taking things to the road for anyone driving by. It was unbelievable to see everything go, and so fast. Over a few days we met lots of great people and got our house emptied out. We are now known as the house that had the free garage sale. Everyone thought it was great but it was also a lot of fun and humbling for us.
In what ways can you be a blessing to a neighbor? How does it feel for you to give or receive something without ANY kind of expectation for return?
“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in your power to do it. Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come back, And tomorrow I will give it,” When you have it with you.” Proverbs 3: 27-28
