I. Handling the Unexpected (Flexibility)

I. Handling the Unexpected (Flexibility)

We waited a little too long to make flight reservations to Florida, so we moved up our trip to December 18th (2021) due to the prices. We were going to have our kids with us a few weeks and my mother for 3 weeks. Our first time seeing the newly renovated house and we were a bit anxious. We had lots of people coming with us. Would the place be finished? What if it wasn’t? My husband and I arrived with our son on the 18th, my mom and daughter were flying in on the 21st. We walked into the remodeled house on the 18th and some things were not there, including the furniture for the family room. It was so hard to concentrate on all that had been done when my mind traveled right to…where are all of us going to sit? I thought we had a backup plan…It turned out that the backup plan of having rental furniture had a small hitch. There was no rental furniture available and was going to take a few days. I desperately want to say that I handled it like a champ, but my emotions got the best of me. I was stressed and the thought of a house full of people and no furniture derailed me for a bit. The contractor and designer had worked so hard and tirelessly getting as much done as physically possible. Living room furniture was such a minor thing in comparison to the grand scheme of everything that was accomplished. It took me a minute (and some work of the Spirit) to set my mind right, a bit of a brain realignment so that the emotions and thoughts worked together again.

Have you ever felt out of balance when something didn’t go according to plan? When the rational and emotional side of your personality were working against each other?

“For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” Romans 7: 19-20
