A Bug's Life

There is an attraction in Animal Kingdom at Disney World called, “It’s Tough to be a Bug!”. Perhaps you are familiar with it.

It is designed to imitate what it is like to be a bug using animation, smells, noises, 3D glasses, and a dark theater with seats that “come alive”.

It is listed as an attraction for all ages but it also says it is “dark, scary, and loud” in the description. Apparently, I never saw the dark, scary, and loud part when we took our kids to see it when they were little (nearly 20 years ago now).

There was a particular part of the “show” where air blows through the seats. My youngest didn’t take too kindly to these unexpected air pellets from behind him. I never saw a kid jump that high or that fast before. I watched from a distance as he jumped into his grandpa’s lap. He then wrapped his little arms around grandpa's neck as if his life depended on it. It was too much.

My heart went out to him but I also thought it was so sweet how quickly and tightly he grabbed a hold of my dad seated next to him. I am sure made my dad’s day.

It reminds me of how God wants us to seek Him as a place of refuge for safety and comfort. We are to quickly go to God and cling to Him as if our lives depend upon it. Even as adults, we know the weight of life around us and how small we are compared to God.

We are going to have times that overwhelm us. The question is who are we going to run to when it happens?

Who do you grab ahold of when you are afraid?

How well do you manage the unexpected “air pellets” of life?

Scripture

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. Psalm 91: 1-4
