Be still, slow down, and...

I was scrolling through Instagram yesterday and came across a GIF.

I must be a slow reader because those clips always go too fast for me. It said something like, “Be still, slow down, and….”. Slow down and what?!! Are you catching the irony here?

The world around us is going at a faster and faster pace to keep up with our shortening attention spans. I am sure the timing of these clips are based on hard data of how many seconds we can keep our attention before we need to see something new. It is scary and worrisome for an old gal like me.

In this case my slow reading skills ending up piquing my curiosity. I discovered that just about anything can be filled in to make “Be still, slow down, and _______” complete. My original thought went to the bible verse “Be still and know that I am God”. However, the slow down part also made me think of words like breathe, smell the roses, see, hear, listen, play, think, relax, love, and laugh just off the top of my head. It seems you can do a lot of things when you are become more still and slow down. What about you? What word or words would you put in the blank?

In a world that is constantly screaming at us to hustle I need to remember that my life with God isn’t about the hustle at all. Wouldn't you agree?
