Can you see it?

Colorado is not known for plentiful rainfall. However, this spring we have received a ridiculous amount of rain. The other night we got 5 inches of rain when the area normally only gets 15 inches of precipitation in a whole year!

We had a relatively short rain shower today, which has become a nearly daily occurrence lately. It was a short storm where there were black skies followed quickly by blue sunny skies. For a short period of time the sun and the rain joined forces as the darkness transitioned to light. If you are like me, you know that these are just the right conditions to catch a rainbow in the sky and you go searching for it.

Well, I looked out the back door expecting to see a big bright colorful rainbow calling to me but there was nothing there…. Disappointed, I went to look out the front door to see if it might be out there…zip. Getting a bit frustrated, I trumped back through the house to look out the back yard one more time before I finally spotted it. It was subtle and not what I expected, but it was there none the less, just over the rooftop of the neighbor. I breathed a sigh of relief. Of course God is faithful! Why did I doubt even for a second?

The rainbow is a reminder from God of a covenant he made to never destroy the entire earth by flood again. It makes me wonder what other reminders God has for me that I should be looking for in order to strengthen my faith. I love how we all instinctively know the right conditions to see God’s workmanship in the production of the rainbow and that God shows up every single time!

So, whether I am feeling blessed in the sunny skies of life or I am in the midst of a storm, I can be assured that God is right there in the middle of it all. Just like the rainbow. I am in awe of it. How about you?

Do you instinctively look for a rainbow when you see rain and sun together?

Do you ever have fear that things are going to turn bad whenever they are going well?

How about when things are going poorly, do you ever wonder when they will end?

How does the fact that both the sun and the rain are required for a rainbow change your perspective?

Does God ever show up in unexpected ways? (maybe even subtle ways)

Scripture

I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become flood to destroy all flesh. Genesis 9:13-15

Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking. Ezekiel 1:28
