My Dad passed away a little over 5 years ago now.

Sometimes it feels like ages, and other times it seems like yesterday. When he passed, a friend of mine put together a little collage for me of some pictures of my dad and I with a caption that said, “Dad…a daughter’s first love.” It makes me a little weepy but the sentiment is true. I was always a bit of a Daddy’s girl, but aren’t we all?

A daughter has a way of closely watching her father and taking in the smallest of details. For me, it was little things like how he would take the change out of his pocket when he got home, how he mowed the yard, swept the garage, shined his shoes, or shaved his face. Many of these little events included the opportunity to converse with him while he worked, including riding on the mower with him.

This makes me think of our Heavenly Father and how we can have a relationship with him that includes watching intently and conversing with Him while He is at work. We may even have the opportunity to participate.

How closely do you watch for God at work? Do you notice the details? How often do you jump in and participate in what God is doing?

“And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:18
