How is your health?

If you are like me, you may tend to hit "ignore" on those routine health reminder calls...

I am not one to go to a doctor unless there is a problem, yet due to an upcoming move I am trying to get in all those preventative care things checked off my list. The ones that are easy to put off. This past week I got a dental cleaning and two women’s health type visits.
Those appointments left me feeling grateful this time around. Thankful that I am not going for a serious problem, but just regular “maintenance”. I realize that I tend to discount the regular maintenance and its importance. The value in making sure there aren’t any red flags forming underneath the surface. It’s an accountability tool as well. Who doesn’t start flossing more a few weeks before a dentist appointment?
My tendency to put off maintenance checks reminds me of how I can do this with my relationship with God. If there isn’t an obvious pain point going on then I can tend to put my relationship with God on the back burner. I can give my ongoing relationship with Him less attention that I should. I don’t take advantage of all that he has to offer me and can miss out on important guidance and leading.
It is humbling and makes me realize how thankful I am for Jesus, the ultimate healer, who sacrificed himself so that we all could be healed. We don’t even need an appointment.
