Turn on your light...

Turning all the lights on before leaving the house goes against all of my instincts, yet it is required when you are showing a house that it for sale.

I can’t turn them on too soon because I will just accidently turn them off again before I leave.
Most of us learn early on in life to try to save money whenever possible and one of those ways is to conserve energy. Money doesn’t grow on trees and all that. And yes, it is probably better for the environment as well.
This got me thinking about my own little light. The song, “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine” comes to mind. Does it take energy to make my light shine? Is there a cost?
Like my instinct to turn off my house lights, I also tend to do that with my own light. I seem to think it should be like a night light that comes on automatically at just the right time with no effort required. I then get surprised and hesitate when God asks me to put forth effort. I feel like I am being put out in some way.
The thing is that every time I do follow God’s direction, the reward is so much greater that I can imagine. The effort and energy on my part is nothing in comparison to how God uses it. That's because God is a multiplier of what we give and I absolutely love that. How about you?
Do you think that letting your light shine should be effortless?
Do you let the light inside you shine or do you instinctively turn it off?
Do you ever hesitate just long enough for an opportunity that God has given you to pass?
Ever talked yourself out of checking in on someone that is on your heart?
Maybe say to yourself your effort won’t make any difference?
Scripture
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
