Happy Mother’s Day to any of the Mama’s out there.

I received a text from my son a few days ago. He asked if we could make a grocery run for him because he had been suffering from an awful stomach bug for several days and wanted some comfort food. My son is twenty-three now and rarely asks for anything anymore, so for me, it was like seeing a bat signal in the sky. Mama to the rescue! I jumped into action. We had been getting ready for movers to come to our house, but that’s ok, all that can wait. I set to task cooking up some chicken while I pulled any pantry item that resembled broth, crackers, or other foods for when you are sick. I then went to the store and grabbed a bunch more stuff on the way to my son’s house. Advil, Tylenol, Nyquil, pudding, jello, crackers, rice packets, 3 kinds of soup, Kleenex, toilet paper, Gatorade, ginger ale, etc… I dropped it all off in record time and then got the heck out of there because I’m no dummy (I certainly didn’t want to get whatever crud he had!!!).

You don’t have to be a mother to come to the rescue for another. You just have to be willing and available. There is just something about being needed that ignites a particular fire inside. I wonder if that’s how Jesus feels when he comes to the rescue for one of his children.

Are you as quick to respond to other people’s needs as you are to your children? (Ouch. Definitely not me).

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
