My husband and I became friends and started dating while we were counselors at a three-week summer camp over 30 years ago.

Unfortunately, our plans after camp had us heading separate ways. We had only known each other a few weeks, so the impending distance made the future of our relationship unknown. I elected to take a “wait and see” attitude, hopeful that we would continue communicating but unsure of the future. My husband, on the other hand, chose to change his plans to spend the rest of the summer in the area. I headed back to college in the fall (seven hours away) and we began a long-distance relationship. Our plans had us set to be separated for the next two years while we finished school. But, a few months into school, I decided to transfer home. I chose to actively pursue him back. Not to ruin the suspense but we ended up getting married a few years later.
I would argue that good relationships require active pursuit by both parties. Our relationship with God is no exception. God pursues us but we also need to actively pursue Him in return. Scripture tells us to seek the Lord, to seek his presence continually.
How well are you pursuing your relationship with God? What does truly seeking the Lord look like to you?
“Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!” 1 Chronicles 16: 10-11
