Weekly Reflection – Wise Counsel

I grew up being the youngest person in most of the situations in which I found myself.

I was the youngest sibling, the youngest kid in my grade in school because of my September birthday. I was the youngest person in my office and management positions when I started working and even when we owned our business. It was a role I enjoyed because I always felt comfortable seeking outside help or counsel. I wasn’t expected to know it all, and I definitely didn’t. It wasn’t a matter of if, but when to seek advice. Maybe it was an attorney in a touchy human resource situation or an accountant regarding a tax issue. It could also be my spouse, neighbor or friend.
There has always been someone that knows more or has something of value to add. My heart goes out to the first born, the first to go to college, the trend setters, the way makers in an industry. I imagine that would be a lot of pressure to be the first. The good news is that whether you are the youngest or oldest, Jesus has paved a path for all of us to follow. We all have something of value to offer but we always have more to learn.
Do you feel you are still learning and asking questions or are you a bit stagnant? Do you believe you should have all the answers? Who do you seek for wise counsel?
“Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.” Proverbs 19: 20
