If you are like me, the concept of beauty can be a struggle.

Is the idea of beauty vain? I can safely say that I would never say out loud that I desired to be “beautiful”, but doesn’t every woman want to be beautiful? The reality is that all of God’s creation is beautiful. The beauty of nature is all around us and pretty easy to identify it when you see it. The blue sky, the ocean, rivers, streams, mountains, flowers, the sunrise and sunset are just a few examples.
It seems different when you talk about the beauty of people though. It is harder to see because people are relational, not just with other people but also with God. Internal beauty becomes a more important factor with people. Have you ever met someone that seemed to just shine from the inside out from the Spirit within them? Perhaps you are one of them. Now that is beautiful! I like to think as our outward appearance fades with age, our inner beauty renews as we grow and become more transformed through the Spirit.
How do you define beauty? Ask your spouse how they define beauty? Do you feel beautiful? If not, ask the Holy Spirit to step into that space.
“Just as water reflects the face, so the heart reflects the person.” Proverbs 27:19
“Do not let your adorning be external – the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear – but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.” 1 Peter 3: 3-4
